Benefits & Rewards
There are numerous benefits and rewards associated with working for us, including;
Generous pension scheme
Our employees are given the option to join the Local Government Pension Scheme which is a nationwide pension scheme for local authorities and other organisation in the public sector. Employees contribute from 5.5% of their salary (contributions depend on salary range). ESBC also makes a significant contribution to the scheme, which is a valuable financial reward with an excellent range of benefits. Benefits include: a secure pension scheme based on career average earnings; that takes account of cost of living increases; the option to receive a tax-free lump sum on retirement; freedom to choose when you take your pension between age 55 and 75; immediate life cover and pensions for dependants.
Flexible working hours
The Council encourages a work-life balance operating a flexi-time scheme allowing most staff to work flexibly between 7.00 am and 7.00 pm. Based on 37 hours per week (for full time) employees are able to manage the times they start and finish work and take breaks with the potential to accrue time to take full or half days flexi leave (up to 16 days flexi leave per year, pro rata for part time hours). This enables greater freedom to balance work and personal life.
The Council values our employees, and has a range of policies in place to provide help and support including: parental leave, emergency leave, paid dependent care leave, maternity leave, paternity leave, shared parental leave, adoption leave, compassionate leave, time off for cancer screening and flexible working requests. We also offer childcare vouchers.
Many people at the Council combine working at home and in the office, allowing extra flexibility and also the opportunity to focus on particular pieces of work.
Generous holiday entitlement
Our basic entitlement ranges from 23 to 33 days plus public holidays, an extra statutory day and two concessionary days.
There is a relocation package for people moving into the area (conditions apply).
Free car parking and green travel
We promote green travel arrangements including car sharing, travel by public transport and bicycle usage. We operate a Cycle Scheme and there is free car parking for staff at our main offices.
Reward and recognition
We recognise the loyalty and commitment of our employees through long service awards.
The Council is committed to employee wellbeing and encourages a healthy workforce through health promotion initiatives, wellbeing assessment checks and access to exercise programmes and classes. The Council also uses an Occupational Health Service which provides advice and guidance on employee health and wellbeing. We also offer employees eye care vouchers.
Leisure centre membership
Corporate membership of the Council’s modern leisure centres is available to employees, their partners and children over the age of 16 who live at the same address.
