Mayor of East Staffordshire

Councillor Philip Hudson

Elected as Mayor: May 2022

Party: Conservative

Constituency: Crown

I was born in Warwickshire, one of five children. I lived in Warwickshire until I left school and worked for F.W. Woolworth and Co Ltd as a management trainee which meant traveling around the country. I was educated at Myton High School Warwick, South Warwickshire College of F.E., Scarborough Tech. College, Lanchester Polytechnic and Staffordshire Polytechnic. I was awarded several certificates and diplomas in Business Studies and in 1990 graduated in Law obtaining the LL.B. I moved to Staffordshire in 1981, having been promoted to store manager at Burslem, Stoke on Trent. I married Karen my wife of 42 years.

In 1983 I joined Staffordshire Police and was stationed at Uttoxeter, where we have lived since. I retired after 30 years but then worked in education as a S.E.N Teaching Assistant at various schools in Staffordshire and Derbyshire.

I am a school governor at Thomas Aleynes High School Uttoxeter. I am Chairman of Uttoxeter Branch Royal British Legion. I am an Instructor, Expedition leader and assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh Award

I am a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists and a member of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle club. I am a volunteer with the Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire Bloodbikes in East Staffordshire. My hobbies include motorcycling, and the outdoors. I support the Ride to the Wall each year at the NMA.

I started my political career in 2016 as a member of Uttoxeter Town Council of which I am still a member. I was elected as Ward Member for Uttoxeter Town of the East Staffs Borough Council in 2017. I was elected as Ward Member for Crown Ward of East Staffs Borough Council in 2019. I was elected as County Councillor for Uttoxeter Urban Division in 2021.

I am truly honoured to have been elected as Mayor during this very special year of our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. I am very much looking forward to visiting all of the communities in this wonderful diverse Borough of East Staffordshire over the coming year.
