Local Warmer Public Community Spaces

I am really pleased the Council has approved plans to identify and establish a number of local community warm spaces across the Borough to help residents with the cost-of-living crisis. Working with and supporting venues such as community centres, community hubs and village halls, the Council has established a new grant fund to support organisations operating a warm space, with a maximum grant of £1,000.00 available. An initial sum of £500 will paid up front to operators so that the Council can understand the impact and pattern of utility usage and this will then allow us to target the remaining £500 commitment to where it is needed most.

The warm spaces page on the Councils website is now live and will be updated regularly with details of new venues that come on board. Spaces in Uttoxeter Heath, Anglesey, Winshill, Shobnall, Burton and Horninglow wards will be open at various times, details can be found via this page. There are several more venues which have expressed an interest and will be available soon and work will continue to identify additional venues to operate warm spaces to ensure there is as wider coverage of community warm spaces as possible throughout the Borough.

A big thankyou to officers and Cllr Bernard Peters, Cabinet member for Communities & Housing, who have brought this scheme together and I’ll be encouraging them to spread the scheme out as wide as possible.
