Disability Band Reduction

Disability band reduction is a scheme that gives help towards your council tax bill if you satisfy certain criteria. If you can answer 'yes' to any of the following questions you should make a claim for a disability band reduction immediately (please note that you do not need to answer 'yes' to all three questions).

  1. Do you, or someone living with you, need a room to meet special needs arising from a disability?
  2. Do you have an extra bathroom or kitchen to meet special needs arising from a disability?
  3. Do you have sufficient floor space in your property to allow the essential use of a wheelchair by a disabled person who lives in the property?

You can make a claim by completing the council tax disability band reduction form saving it on your computer and emailing it back to us as an attachment, or by visiting one of our Customer Service Centres in Burton or Uttoxeter.

Please note: If you apply for this discount we will arrange for an officer to visit you. The purpose of the visit will be to assess whether or not you are entitled to a reduction.

If you qualify for this reduction, your council tax charge will go down by one property band. For example, if you currently pay a band C charge, your new charge will go down to a band B charge. If you live in a band A property, your council tax charge will be reduced by 1/9th of the band D charge.
