Council launches 'Stay Local' campaign to support local businesses

As England prepares to exit the one month lockdown on the 2nd December, East Staffordshire Borough Council is encouraging local residents to ‘Stay Local’ as the authority launches a new campaign to support businesses in the Borough.

The ‘Stay Local’ campaign, designed to both raise awareness of local businesses and promote safe shopping, will be advertised across a range of media including outdoor, social media and online.

Local businesses will be able to access a range of downloadable assets via a new campaign toolkit, available on the East Staffordshire Borough Council website, to promote their business and demonstrate how they are adhering to safety guidance. A range of assets will also be available for local residents to show their support.

Councillor Sue McGarry, Cabinet Support Member, said: “It’s been a tough year for local businesses, who’ve worked tirelessly to adapt the way they operate to keep customers safe and to keep their businesses alive. We hope the introduction of the ‘Stay Local’ campaign can help provide them with a boost going into the festive period, particularly now that we will be subject to the Tier 3 restrictions.”

The campaign follows a number of initiatives put in place by the authority to help residents stay safe during the Coronavirus pandemic, including town centre signage and the recent introduction of Covid marshals.

In December the Council will also be providing free car parking on Saturdays (5th, 12th & 19th) in the run up to Christmas to provide further support for retailers and businesses. This is in addition to the “free after 3” parking offer which already offers free parking in the Coopers Square and Burton Place (Lower) car parks in Burton upon Trent and the Maltings car park in Uttoxeter every day after 3pm.
