East Staffordshire Borough Council approves Masterplan for Uttoxeter

At a meeting of the Full Council on Monday 21st December 2020, the refreshed Masterplan for Uttoxeter was approved. A joint project between East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council (commissioned during Cllr Philip Atkins time as Leader of the SCC), the Masterplan was produced by Cushman & Wakefield with the purpose of considering options for improving Uttoxeter and future proofing it for years to come.

As part of the project, Cushman & Wakefield were tasked with reviewing the existing Uttoxeter Town Centre Masterplan, from 2003, and creating a new town wide Masterplan looking up to 20 years into the future to assess how the town can be enhanced as a place for people to live, work, invest in, and visit. Both councils commissioned the consultants to give an independent and impartial perspective to the masterplan.

In developing the new Uttoxeter Masterplan, Cushman & Wakefield undertook extensive consultation with key stakeholders, landowners and the public to identify key opportunities, challenges and the strengths of Uttoxeter.

The refreshed Masterplan for Uttoxeter is available on the Council’s website at https://www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk/burton-town-regeneration-programme/regeneration/uttoxeter-masterplan

This project was jointly funded by the two Councils, however East Staffordshire Borough Council was successful in bidding for up to £20,000 from the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership to cover its contribution. This funding was accessed through the partnership’s Strategic Economic Plan Enabling Fund, through the Towns and Local Centres revenue funding support scheme.

Speaking of the approved Masterplan, Cllr George Allen, Deputy Leader for Regeneration & Planning Policy, said:

“I am very happy the Council was able to support this Masterplan and adopt it. The plan indicates what interventions would be supported in key areas of the Town Centre which have become run down as well as providing a vison of how sports and recreational facilities in the town could be expanded.

“ESBC’s adoption of the Masterplan shows a clear commitment to regeneration in Uttoxeter and as a local member of the Town I know it will be welcomed by residents.”
