Flag Set to Fly to Honour British Forces

On Monday, June 22nd at 10.00am, the Mayor of East Staffordshire will be joining other local authorities across Britain to raise the Armed Forces Day flag.

This will mark the start of a week of preparations that will culminate with the country’s twelfth Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27th June 2020.

The Mayor of East Staffordshire, Councillor Colin Wileman, will NOT be joined by residents of East Staffordshire this year due to COVID-19 guidelines therefore will be hoisting the flag with only the Macebearer in attendance.

Councillor Wileman said: “Armed Forces Day is a day of remembrance and an opportunity to say thanks to all the armed forces and their families for all the work that they do throughout the world.

“I am extremely privileged and very proud to play a small part in these ceremonies, by being able to have the freedom to honour all who have risked their lives for us, and to show our thanks to the heroes who have given the ultimate sacrifice for us and our country.”

In the meantime Mr Mayor wishes all East Staffordshire residents to please Stay Alert and Stay Safe.
