New car parking app available to download

A new parking app will be available for residents and visitors to East Staffordshire Borough Council car parks in Burton and Uttoxeter. The free to download app will allow you to pay for parking on your mobile phone.

The app, which is available to download from the App and Play store, as well as the Council’s website, is a really simple way to pay to park. The parking app will also help protect members of the public and Council staff by reducing the need to handle loose change, avoiding the risks of cross contamination. For those who like to pay by contactless card or pay using loose change those options will still be available.

The new parking app will be available to use on Monday 29th June and will coincide with the reintroduction of car parking charges. The Council introduced a temporary suspension to parking charges in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Regulatory and Community Support, said: “At the start of the coronavirus outbreak it was important to protect our residents and workers by isolating the pay stations in our car parks to avoid the possibility of any cross contamination. To assist this, the Council introduced a temporary suspension to its parking charges.

“Now that our town centres have started to gradually reopen, the Council has made the decision to reintroduce parking charges two weeks after our high streets reopened, giving our businesses and shops time to settle in to the new social distancing measures implemented in our towns.

“The new parking app provides residents of Burton and Uttoxeter, and visitors to our town centres, with another option to pay for their parking. In the current climate, the parking app provides a safe and secure way to pay to park.

“The app is easy to use, but further instructions can be found on our website and Council officers will be available in our car parks to provide advice and guidance.”

When the Council temporarily suspended its parking charges in March, the decision was also made to delay changes to its parking tariff, which were due to be implemented on 1st April. The changes to our parking tariff will now be implemented on 29th June.
