Council launches first stage of consultation on Towns Fund Project D

East Staffordshire Borough Council launches first stage of consultation on Towns Fund Project D

Project D (High Street Linkages) is one of seven proposals that make up the £22.8m Towns Fund programme. The project aims to regenerate the riverside area between Burton High Street and the Washlands Flood Defences, better connecting it to the High Street.

The Council has recently created a ‘Sounding Board’ of residents who are helping to inform the approach to consultation for this project, which will be conducted across three stages.

This first stage will be a ‘Call for ideas’ where we want to hear people’s ideas for how we can make this part of Burton a popular destination for residents and visitors.

Cllr George Allen, Deputy Leader for Regeneration and Planning Policy, said:

“We want to hear everyone’s ideas and suggestions for this project in order to inform the plans that will be created over the next few months as part of the business case process.

“At this moment, there are no plans or agreements to build anything through this project, including housing on the library site, because we want to hear people’s views first. This is an opportunity for everyone to have their say.

“There will be three stages of consultation for this project and the first one is about getting people’s views on the types of things they’d like to see developed in this area.”

This round of consultation will be open until Monday 23rd August, 12pm, after which the Council will work with its Sounding Board in order to agree the next steps for the second stage consultation.
