Warnings over Fake Emails for Business Grants

East Staffordshire Borough Council is warning residents to be cautious and vigilant on fake emails being sent out surrounding the current grant schemes.

The Council has been made aware there are scam emails coming from an email address of G.O.V.U.K and it asks the recipient to follow a link to grant for £7,500.00.  This email address does not originate from the Council.  We are advising anyone who receives this type of email to forward it directly to Action Fraud via their website https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/scam-emails.

Councillor Duncan Goodfellow, Leader of the Council, said: “It is very concerning that during these turbulent times, fraudsters are trying to take advantage of people.  The Borough Council wants to ensure the wellbeing of all its residents and businesses and make sure they are aware of scams circulating.  If you receive any such emails please do not click on the link and immediately report it to Action Fraud.”

Details of the grants available to businesses can be found on the Council’s website at http://www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk/coronavirus/business-support and via the Government’s website at https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus/business-support.
