Burton in Blooms’ entry, supported by Molson Coors and Trent & Dove, was officially recognised at the RHS Britain in Bloom awards held on Monday 10th October.
The town, which represented the midlands region in the Small City category, was awarded a Silver Gilt for its entry, and there was a special award for the work the Council leads with young people, as it claimed a certificate of achievement for Children and Young People participation.
RHS judges were impressed with their visit to Burton, having commented: “During our visit to Burton upon Trent, at Stapenhill Gardens the colourful floral displays provided a backdrop to a special place for the community and it was so lovely to see so many people enjoying the outdoor space for the Picnic in the Park. A great first time entry to the National Britain in Bloom and it will not be the last. Well done everyone.”
In addition to the national awards, East Staffordshire entries claimed a total of 21 regional awards including 12 gold’s in 2022 meaning East Staffordshire entries have now collected a total of 36 consecutive gold medals since 2008.
Cllr Ray Faulkner, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “I am delighted to see Burton’s beautiful open spaces rewarded with the winning of a Silver Gilt in the Britain In Bloom competition. Going forward, the Council will continue to develop the many parks and open spaces across the Borough, with the twin aims of creating even better areas for the pleasure of all residents and continued In Bloom recognition.”
