Council Commits to TUC’s Dying to Work Charter

East Staffordshire Borough Council has recently added its name to the TUC’s Dying to Work Voluntary Charter. This charter ensures that terminally ill workers are supported appropriately and are provided with adequate employment protection following their diagnosis.

The charter sets out an agreed way in which employees are to be supported, protected and guided, while ensuring their death in service benefits are protected for the loved ones they leave behind.

Cllr George Allen, Leader of the Council, said: “The Council has been supporting employees and their families for many years and even more so during the Covid-19 pandemic.”

“No one should have to suffer any additional stress or worry regarding employment following a terminal diagnosis and I would encourage other employers to demonstrate their high standards by signing the Dying to Work Voluntary Charter.”

“The Council will continue to offer the necessary support to any and all employees that require it.”

East Staffordshire Borough Council is the latest employer to sign up to the Dying to Work Voluntary Charter, following in the footsteps of employers such as Rolls Royce, the Royal Mail and the Co-op.
