East Staffordshire Borough Council has today launched a Vision Statement for the High Street Museum Project proposal, which looks at creating a new National Museum of Brewing alongside existing proposals for a Burton Heritage Centre.
The Vision Statement establishes the overall concept and objectives for this project proposal, which have been informed by the Council’s existing working group of local historians.
Cllr George Allen, Leader of the Council, said: “This is an exciting moment for the High Street regeneration project as we look to set out our aspiration for a new museum in Old Bass House and Town House.
There’s still a lot of work to be done to develop this project, but I’d like to thank the Heritage Working Group who have helped to create this vision and set a pathway for taking the proposal forward.”
The Museum project proposal will be developed during 2023 and is subject to Member approval, which is currently anticipated to be considered in September 2023. If approved, the project will then run to March 2026, with an aim of completing the construction works by the end of September 2025.
More details on the project, and the proposed interim National Archive Centre mentioned in the Vision Statement, will be made available in due course.
