East Staffordshire Borough Council has today announced who will switch on the Burton Christmas Lights this year.
Television auctioneer Richard Winterton will switch on this year’s Burton Christmas Lights, which is supported by Coopers Square Shopping Centre and Bloor Homes.
This year’s switch on, which takes place on Sunday 27th November, has been expanded to include new lighting on New Street and Union Street. The event will start from 2pm with family entertainment, competitions and live music on the main stage, hosted by Mark O’Sullivan.
Crowds will also be treated to a range of guests including, Commonwealth gold and Olympic bronze medallist boxer Frazer Clarke and BRIT nominee DJ and Producer Nathan Dawe.
Richard Winterton commented, "It's a real honour to be asked to help switch on the Christmas lights.
"We've had a wonderful warm welcome to Burton Market Hall and this is the icing on the cake.
"Our new unit has been very busy with people popping in to ask for advice and valuation estimates for jewellery and watches and we also had a fantastic event for vintage toys recently.
"We're looking forward to more weekly valuations leading up to Christmas with further special events in the New Year.
"Everyone at Richard Winterton Auctioneers would like to wish the people and businesses of Burton every good wish for the festive season."
Lynette Howgate, Coopers Square Shopping Centre Manager, said: “Coopers Square is a community-oriented shopping centre with the town of Burton at its heart.
“We are delighted to support with the East Staffordshire Borough Council’s festive celebrations and play our part in the town to kick off the Christmas period with some cheer. Burton is already seen in the wider area as a shopping hub for many nearby towns and villages. We have a great selection in the centre to get ready for Christmas in a brilliant town centre environment.
“Events like this encourage more people to shop in Burton and boost the local economy, which can only be a great thing for the town.”
Michele Rose, Sales Director at Bloor Homes’ Midlands region, said: “As we’re new to Burton upon Trent and this is our first Christmas in the community, we wanted to support the Christmas lights which are so important for the town at this time of year.
“It’s also an opportunity to say thank you for the warm welcome we have received here. We believe in creating better life experiences one home at a time, and as part of that we like to support the communities we work with.
“We’d like to wish everyone a happy Christmas and extend an invitation to come and see us at our new development located off Beamhill Road to find out more about us as a quality house builder and our new homes at our new Outwood Meadows development.”
Cllr Bev Ashcroft, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Cultural Development, said: “I am delighted we have so many wonderful Christmas events this year. The Christmas lights switch on is always a special event and as always we have a great line-up of guests and entertainment. I look forward to seeing everyone on the day enjoying the show and the lights.”
The much-loved annual switch on, which will include a funfair and festive market stalls, marks the start of an exciting line up of Christmas in Burton events.
