At its meeting of Full Council on Monday 19th February 2024, East Staffordshire Councillors will discuss a proposal to purchase the Maltings Precinct in Uttoxeter in order to enable the regeneration of the wider Maltings site.
In a report presented at the Council meeting, Councillors will be advised on the calculation of a ‘best and final’ offer to the landowner, made under delegated authority to the Cabinet Member, and accepted in principle by the landowner, subject to contract.
Councillors will be asked to approve the purchase in principle, subject to the detail of contract negotiations, the final decision for which would be delegated to two Cabinet Members in consultation with the two Group Leaders and the Chief Executive.
Cllr Rob Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Development, said: “It is my great pleasure to bring this report to Council on Monday 19th February. Purchasing and regenerating the Maltings site was a key ambition of mine and the Labour Group going into the election last year. I’m delighted that we have been able to progress this purchase negotiation within the first year and I can’t wait to start the consultation process with local residents to talk about what we could collectively achieve through this important project.”
If Councillors approve the purchase of the site in principle, the next steps will be for contract negotiations to take place between the Council and the landowner, including discussions with the existing leaseholders at the precinct.
