ESBC Changes Cabinet Portfolio Responsibilities

East Staffordshire Borough Council is changing its cabinet portfolio responsibilities with immediate effect. The changes will be reported to a meeting of Full Council on 23rd September 2024.

Cllr Louise Walker, a Cabinet support member, will become Cabinet member for Planning Policy in anticipation of emerging government policy around the national planning policy framework with plans for increased housing growth, including more affordable housing. Cllr Rob Hawkins is confirmed as Cabinet member for Regeneration with the borough seeking major regeneration in both of its towns. Cllr Ali Chaudhry, Cabinet member for Finance and Treasury Management, will be responsible for section 106 monies stewardship.

Cllr Mick Fitzpatrick, Leader of the Council, stated “These changes to the responsibilities of Cabinet members respond to the Government’s plans to review the National Planning Policy Framework, progress quickly with house building, review green belt and anticipate future announcements on affordable and social housing.”

The full responsibilities of the three members are outlined below. All other cabinet member roles remain the same.

  • Financial Management, Treasury Management and Accounts (Revenue and Capital)
  • Section 106 Monies  
  • Internal Audit (outsourced) 
  • Risk Management 
  • Housing Benefits and Council Tax Support  
  • Telephony 
  • Collection and Recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates including Sundry Debts
