A Remembrance Parade is to go through Burton upon Trent on Sunday 10th November, forming up at Cooper Square Car Park from 9:20am and departing at 9:40am.
The parade, led by 351 (Burton upon Trent) Squadron Corps of Drums will proceed down the High Street into the Market Place, arriving at St. Modwen’s Parish Church for a Service of Remembrance at 10:00am. Residents who wish to attend the Service of Remembrance but do not wish to join the parade are asked to be seated in St Modwen’s Parish Church by 9:50am.
An Act of Remembrance will then take place at the War Memorial on Lichfield Street at 10:55am, including a wreath laying ceremony.
The parade will then reform and return down the High Street back to Cooper Square Car Park with eyes left for the salute outside Cooper Square entrance, next to Primark, return to the Brewhouse next to Sainsbury’s for refreshments and awards by the Mayor.
Cllr Shelagh McKiernan, Mayor of East Staffordshire, said:
“I am remembering those who loved our nation selflessly, may we always remember them.
Members of my own family played their part, from my grandfather in the RAF in the Second World War, my father doing his National Service, to relatives retired from the Navy or serving in the Army today, I would like to pay my utmost respect to them. May those who have gone before shine their brightness down from above and inspire those here today to serve with honour and pride.
We are commencing the parade this year from Cooper’s Square car park to St Modwen’s Church. I would be grateful if as many of you as possible would come out to line the route and gather at the cenotaph to witness the wreath laying. We will not forget that for our tomorrow, they gave their today.”
