History of the Statutes Fair
The Burton Statutes Fair has been running in some shape or form for many centuries. It takes place in the autumn of each year on the first Monday and Tuesday after Michaelmas – usually starting on the first Monday in October.
Over the years it has changed from a primarily hiring fair, where labourers were hired for the coming year, to the amusement fair that we have today.
The Statutes Fair, operated by Pat Collins Fun Fairs, will be returning to Burton upon Trent this year, taking place from Sunday 29th of September 2024 to Tuesday 1st of October 2024 in the Market Place and the surrounding areas of High Street, Lichfield Street, New Street, Manor Croft and Manor Drive.
The Fair will be open to the public at the following times:
• Sunday 29th of September, 12:30pm – 11:00pm
• Monday 30th of September, 12:00pm – 11:00pm
• Tuesday 1st of October, 12:00pm – 11:00pm
Fairground staff will arrive on site on the evening of Saturday 28th September to begin building the fair.
Road and car park closures will also be in position from 4:00pm on Saturday 28th September until 6:00am on Wednesday 2nd October, allowing the funfair to close, clear, the streets to be swept and allow normal business to continue.
Road closures include:
• Market Place – Closed to all traffic
• High Street - Closed to through traffic from its junction with Station Street to Lichfield Street.
• New Street - Closed to through traffic from its junction with High Street to its junction with Union Street
• Lichfield Street - Closed to traffic from its junction with High Street to its junction with Bond Street
