Employment of Related Persons

You must disclose any relationships with any Councillor or employee of East Staffordshire Borough Council at the time of application.

Definition of related persons is husband and wife, son or daughter, grandson or granddaughter, brother or sister, nephew or niece, grandparents.

Direct family relationships and indirect family relationships such as common law, same sex relationships, “in-laws” and step-relationships are included.

This does not prevent the appointment of related persons.

Our policy on the employment of related persons is available from Human Resources.

Rehabilitation of the Offenders Act 1974

You will notice that one of the sections on the application form asks for details of any criminal convictions that you have.

You must disclose all convictions that you have, including motoring offences, except where these convictions have become ‘spent’.

Some jobs involving working with children, other vulnerable groups or in a position of trust are exempt from these provisions.

You must, therefore, disclose details of reprimands, formal warnings, cautions and convictions, including spent and unspent convictions.

In these instances, there is a specific question on the application form.

Applicants with Disabilities – Disability Confident Employer

East Staffordshire Borough Council is a Level 2 accredited Disability Confident Employer, which means we have made five commitments relating to the employment of people with disabilities.  These commitments are:

  • To interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and to consider them on their abilities;
  • To discuss with disabled employees, at any time, but at least once a year, what both parties can do to make sure disabled employees can develop and use their abilities;
  • To make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment;
  • To take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work;
  • To review these commitments each year and assess what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them, and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans.
